Vetri MURANO

ART GLASS

Vetro ghiaccio was first produced in the sixteenth century and would continue to the eighteenth century. The name means “Ice Glass” where the surface is riddled with all sorts of fine cracks. It is obtained by immersing the half worked piece in cold water. the sudden difference in temperature caused cracks

Later a similar effect was obtained by rolling the still soft semi-finished object on a polished steel, brass or granite surface with fragments of coloured glass which melt and adhere to the surface. H33cm. Very rare. ca.1935. Made in Murano.

Ref. example. Murano Glass. Themes and variations by Marc heiremans.
